A Fiat Seduction

So, does anyone know if the spot for Fiat above is actually a preamble for a porno? I realize that sex sells, but can you be anymore obvious? The spot does try to tell a story about a man lusting after the Abarath, to the extent that he actually visualizes the beautiful Catrinel Menghia. She does a great job of acting the role of the temporarily angry, Italian woman. By the way, Menghia is actually Romanian.

The element that I think really saves the spot is the one sided Italian conversation between the two characters.  A rough translation of the conversation is as follows:

“What are you looking at? Uh? What are you looking at? (slap) Are you undressing me with your eyes? Poor guy… you can’t help it? Is your heart beating? Is your head spinning? Do you feel lost thinking that I could be yours forever?”

The translation is courtesy of http://www.fiat500abarth.us/.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the spot but the sexual innuendo comes on a little to strong for my taste. I should note that this spot's initially aired during the Super Bowl so it must have tested well for the agency.

This is one of those spots that the viewer remembers the commercial but not necessarily the product it was advertising. What do you guys think?

The agency behind this spot is The Richards Group out of Dallas.

Inside That Ad’s Favorite 2012 Super Bowl Commercials

I know that this post is 13 days overdue, but better late then never, right? Every advertising blog has to discuss the commercials of the biggest advertising event of the year, the Super Bowl. Those of us who were faithful to Patriot Nation had hoped that advertisers would have a better night. But unfortunately only a few advertisers produced anything of note, all the rest should have kept their checkbooks in their pockets. So without further ado, here are ITA’s favorite Super Bowl spots.

Note: I only discuss a few spots because there only a few spots that I feel are worthy of a discussion.

The Tease - Oikos Yogurt

This spot for Oikos Greek Yogurt features John Stamos being head butted by his gorgeous girlfriend over her special yogurt. Note to guys – don’t stand between a lady and her Oikos.

Agency: Poptent, Y&R

Sling Baby – Doritos

This spot involves a baby, a slingshot and a wheelchair bound granny taking the last bag Doritos from the antagonist “older kids.” This spot was created via Crash the Super Bowl contest run by Doritos.

Agency: In-house

Rescue Dog – Bud Light

This dog fetches Bud Light on command by saying “Here, we go.” He races to fetch a Bud Light for the person who gave the command.

Agency: McGarryBowen

Voice Combat – The Voice

Betty White shares some of her “Golden Talents” for the above promo for The Voice.

Goodbye 1984: Making Fun of Apple

The ad above for Motorola makes is an attempt, in my opinion to make fun of Apple. It does so by letting its agency create a spot that makes several references to Apple’s 1984 commercial. The references are made in order to make a statement about Apple’s closed garden view. The main message they want to promote seems to be that people need options.

The ad agency behind the spot is Anomaly. See if you can spot the similarities. Please let me know what you think by commenting below.

Thoughts on the 2011 Super bowl Commercials

The Force

Brand: Volkswagen
Client: Volkswagen of America, Inc
Ad Agency: Deutsch, L.A.

There was no doubt in my mind that “The Force” was the best spot of the night. Of course the Mini Vader spot was going to win, people are suckers for small animals and cute babes/kids. Cute babies and kids are the ad industry’s go to play when it comes to entertaining the crowd for the big game. To add to the Mini Vader saga, according to Adfreak Volkswagen’s super kid whose name is Max page suffers from a heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot, and he needs a pacemaker. Now if that doesn’t pull on people’s heart strings nothing will.

Siege

Brand: Coca-Cola
Client: Coca-Cola Company
Ad Agency: Wieden + Kennedy

The reason I like the spot above is because of the sophisticated graphics that must have been involved in the creation of the ad. Also, the spot plays like a movie and it entertains people. It’s part of the “Open Happiness” campaign. The campaign began in January 2009.

First Date
Brand: Pepsi Max
Client: Pepsi Company
Ad Agency: Goodby, Silverstein & Partners

I thought this spot was great; I developed an even greater sense of respect for the Pepsi Company because they let this commercial air on the biggest advertising stage of the year. I already drink only Pepsi products and great advertising will only further cement my loyalty to them. I was surprised that this spot aired because it explicitly discusses “sex” and as a country we tend to frown on that because we tend to be more conservative then our European counterparts. So to a spot like the one put on display during one of the biggest television in the country makes me extremely proud of our country and our marketers. It shows that we can be a bit more liberal and let people decide for themselves what’s appropriate for them and their families and what isn’t.

Best Part

Brand: Doritos
Client: Frito-Lay
Ad Agency: Goodby, Silverstein & Partners

This ad was actually the winner of the Crash the Super Bowl ad competition. I am not sure if this spot will hurt or help the Doritos brand as far as over all sales. I think people might be offended by the spot because again we a very conservative nation. And I don’t people appreciated seeing a man sucking on another man’s finer. The only thing that I believe grabbed people’s attention was the shock value of the spot. This commercial will fall in the same commercial predicament that the Snickers “Mechanics” commercial was in back in 2007. TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York created the Mechanics spot.

Artiste

Brand: E*Trade
Client: E*Trade Financial Corporation
Ad Agency: Grey, New York

What else can I say, this campaign as a whole has a special place in my heart because it was an E-Trade “Talking Baby” commercial that got this whole blog started. So, this is just another commercial in a long line of funny spots by E-Trade’s ad agency.

Well people please enjoy and leave your comments below!
