KFC Has A Job For You

Image via Adfreak
If you are pretty, female, outgoing, need a job, and don’t mind the phrase “Double Down” written across your derriere, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has a job opportunity for you. The campaign’s objective is to tempt college guys into trying the company’s new bun-less sandwich. The job does require a uniform; really it’s just sweatpats sporting the phrase “Double Down” and the KFC logo.

Ladies, the gig pays $500, which may help you forget about your feminist sensibilities for a little while
anyway. You can apply for the position to become a human billboard or what the company calls “Brand Ambassadors” by leaving them a message on their Facebook Fan page. If the campaign reaches your campus you’ll know that your application was accepted.

I believe the campaign idea was developed within the KFC Marketing Department. I only say that because in their press release, KFC pats themselves on the back for not going the traditional route of park benches, skywriting or on-blimp advertising. I guess KFC has done the whole skywriting thing one too many times.

Anyway, what do you guys and ladies think? Should college women “Double Down” or not? By the way, in my opinion, KFC should charge for the sandwiches the ambassadors are handing out. Why charge for the sandwiches? Guys will buy one just for the opportunity to talk to a hot girl. Hey, for some of the guys that actually eat those types of sandwiches it's the only chance they'll get.

Promoting South Bend’s "Pubic" Schools

A sign in South Bend, Indiana. Photo By: Lee MacMillan
The creators of the billboard above never had those weekly, Friday spelling tests when they were in school, I’m guessing. It’s even more embarrassing when your message is intended to celebrate your local— pathetic, public—school system. Yeah, a friend sent me this article from MSNBC.

By Monday, responsibility for the error was taken by Blue Waters Group. They do feel bad, but they should be held responsible for the egg on their client’s face.

And for those of you who didn't catch the error, the word "Public" is missing an L on the billboard which makes "Pubic."

Team Hoyt Billboard

I saw the Team Hoyt billboard ad driving around town in Los Angeles and began to wonder why the ad was created. First, you should know that Dick and Rick Hoyt are a father and son team that competes in marathons together. The catch is Rick Hoyt is confined to a wheelchair. His dad pushes him in his wheelchair through every marathon or triathlon race they enter. The story inspires just about everyone that hears about it.

The billboard was created on behalf of the Foundation For A Better Life (FLB). The organization’s mission is to “Encourage adherence to a set of quality values through personal accountability and by raising the level of expectations of performance of all individuals.” The statement was taken right off of their Web-site. I wrote a short email to the organization asking who creates their ads but I got no response.

I honestly think that the FLB creates their ads in-house because they are probably a non-profit organization. I’m not saying that being a non-profit means that you can’t use outside agencies, I’m just saying I’m not completely sure. I have to say that I’m not sure you would have chose to create billboard using this tandem.

There are a lot of fathers in this world that would do absolutely anything for their children. Why are these two getting all this attention? The only reason I paid any attention to the ad is because of the wheelchair. The severely disabled aren’t usually featured in national ads because they just don’t look “good” enough. But back to my original point why are these two getting all this attention? I think it simply because it makes other people feel good about themselves.

I guess I just don’t like to see the disabled paraded around the country to be gawked at. As a person in a wheelchair I’m a bit bothered by that. But let me ask you readers out there, do these billboards inspire you to do good works?

Best,
A.B.
