The Degree Wolves
The ad above I first saw during Roger Federer’s quarterfinal match in the just finished Australian Open. It features Bear Grylls, the star of Man vs. Wild, conducts a race between three average Joes that have been outfitted with “meat ponchos” and of course Degree deodorant and their opposition, a pack of wolves. The objective of the race is to remain alive, be first, and of course without pit stains. All of this was just to show that Degree Deodorant is the best in the business.
Thought the spot was one of the funnier deodorant spot I’ve seen in a while, much more attention getting then scientific advertising. Why you ask, because the ad above is actually funny. Scientific advertising spots tend to be very dry and not funny.
I wonder what the agency, Deutsch, N.Y., had to do to actually control the wolves? And what would have happened had actually won the race? Oh wait, they would have just taken their prize, the ponchos of course.
Anyway, comment people. Question, do you think this spot actually managed to sell more deodorant or was it just funny?

Y&R SF and Dr Pepper Snapple Part Ways
Y&R and Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPSG) will be parting ways after 40 years of working together according to an Ad Age article. In ’08 DPSG moved three of their brands away from Y&R to Deutsch , the three beverages moved are Dr Pepper, Snapple and Diet Dr Pepper. A shake up of brands happened again in February of 2010 when DPSG moved Canada Dry, Sunkist, and A&W Root Beer to McGarryBowen without a review. This meant that Y&R only had 7UP after a 40-year relationship with DPSG.
So, why has changing ad agencies become so common in the industry today? Why is having an ad agency position so insecure?
Let me know what you guys think. Oh, and by the way, the ad showen above is the only brand Y&R has left from DPSG, 7UP.

NFL Sunday Ticket Campaign
Here are the other NFL Sunday Ticket campaign commercials that I could find. This is simply to show you guys the rest of the spots in the campaign. Of course my favorite is the New Orleans Saints Voodoo spot.
The first one was titled the “Cheeseheads” spot.
Second is the Dallas Dog.
Third is the Eagle’s Game.
Fourth is Home of the Pats.
Anyway, enjoy everyone and please let me know if you find more.

Saints "Voodoo" Direct TV Spot
Direct TV has taken their NFL Sunday ticket commercials to new heights with this Voodoo practicing Saints fan in the spot above. In the spot, the Saints fan torture a rival Atlanta Falcons supporter using a voodoo doll. What heinous crime has the Falcons fan’s only crime, you ask? He purchased a Direct TV package that will allow him to watch his team regardless of where he lives.
The Saints fan sits at home pricking a doll with needles that inturn cause the Falcons supporter to fall to the ground in pain. With an evil grin on his face the Saints fan mumbles, "Dirty birds can’t fly with a broken wing." When watching the spot you can’t help but laugh at his agony. But I must say, I’d be interested to know what sort of information the creative brief had that enabled the art directors at Deutsch to realize this would be a funny scenario for Direct TV’s football audience?
I guess the real question is why was this topic considered funny to people? The practice of voodoo is usually considered evil, black magic. I should clarify; in my opinion western media portrays voodoo as evil and dark. Its considered something used to harm others. But honestly, I don’t think that is the whole truths, nothing but the truth.
Anyway, let me know what you guys thought about the spot and why you thought it was funny or not funny. Oh, one more thing, how many times have you guys seen this particular spot aired on T.V?
Best,
